Scavenger Hunt (Day 2)

We've enjoyed seeing your submissions come in - here are some of our favorites from yesterday!

Infinite Craft

Smash Camp and Rule 34 got me feeling like the existential GigaChad my Math Teacher always said I was. I mean, here's the results for Infinite Craft. All words on the board totaled up to 110 possible points.

Cabin 1 - 76 pts
Cabin 2 - 72 pts
Cabin 3 - 62 pts
Cabin 4 - 44 pts

Congrats to THE GAYS! Here's the reward for each cabin.
Gamers Against Yoshi's Story (GAYS): 200 points
Super Dickmann's Dicke Nüsse: 150 points
:3: 100 points
Cabin of Theseus: 50 points

Cabin Standings

The standings at the end of Day Two are as follows:

Gamers Against Yoshi's Story (GAYS): 1379
Super Dickmann's Dicke Nüsse: 1659
:3: 1504
Cabin of Theseus: 1187

*Side event scores are counted as the week progresses.

All submissions go into the respective submission channel for your cabin. Entries will not count unless they are posted there. Only submissions should be placed in that channel. Keep all of your submissions in one message if the character limit permits. Use image links (from Discord, imgur, etc.) instead of directly uploading to the channel when posting images. All discussion should be held in your cabin's main Discord channel.

If you need an extension on the deadline for whatever reason, talk to Bossvelt and Thundawave about it beforehand. All entries submitted past the deadline will only be counted for participation points and will NOT place if they would have otherwise.

ALL SUBMISSIONS ARE DUE IN THEIR RESPECTIVE CHANNELS BY .

Medley of Madness

A Smash Camp tradition - our leaders and crew have compiled an evil guess-the-song competition! Timestamps of each song have been provided on the page linked below. The songs are from mixed genres, including but most definitely not limited to pop, alternative, rock, video games, and anime.

Contest Guidelines

  • As a cabin, complete the list of songs that you can guess to the best of your ability.
  • YOU MAY NOT GOOGLE LYRICS OR USE AUDIO-DETECTING SOFTWARE. You MAY NOT ask for outside help. You can, however, Google a song you think might be the one you're listening to.
  • This challenge is due on Wednesday at 11:59 EDT. Counselors, please use the Google Doc for the medley found in your cabin folders to use as the submission.
  • Fill out your guesses in "Artist - Song" format.  If it is in any other format, the guess will not count. Our sanity thanks you for your compliance.

When adding guesses to your cabin's Google Doc, you MUST include your name alongside your contributions.

2 points will be awarded for each correct title and artist/game/anime/creator named. 1 point will be awarded if only the correct title or artist/game/anime/creator is named.

Additionally, cabin performance will be awarded with placement bonuses.
1st place will be awarded 200 points
2nd place will be awarded 150 points
3rd place will be awarded 100 points
4th place will be award 50 points

Wikipedia Speedrun Race!

You might have already heard of a Wikipedia speedrun, but I will still explain it for those that do not. We will be using this website: Wikipedia Speedruns!

A Wikipedia Speedrun is where you start from one Wikipedia page and have to get to the goal page as fast as you can. Here is how it'll work for this event in particular:

  • Participants will do 10 Wikipedia article speedruns randomized from the top 3000 articles. The articles will be randomized live. Your score will be based on the accumulated time from all 10 articles. There is a time limit of 3 minutes per speedrun. If you pass 3 minutes and do not get to the goal article, your time will be counted as 3 minutes for that article.
  • There will be 4 sessions throughout the day as follows: 12:30 AM, 3 PM, 6 PM, 9 PM.
  • There will be one leaderboard used for all sessions even if the articles will be different from session to session. We feel this is overall best for the event and logistical purposes.
  • Scores that count will be based off the cabin that had the least amount of participants. This means if Cabin 1-3 had 7 participants but Cabin 4 had 5 participants, then only the top 5 scores from each cabin will be counted. We will need AT LEAST 5 scores per cabin. On the off chance there is a cabin that cannot get 5 participants, we can have a member double up for another session, but this will only be used in an emergency situation.

1st place will be awarded 100 points
2nd place will be awarded 75 points
3rd place will be awarded 50 points
4th place will be awarded 30 points
5th place will be awarded 20 points
6th through 10th place will be award 10 points each.

Art

Pick your poison: writing or art? This event is mutually exclusive with the writing competition. If you submit (individually) for one, you CANNOT submit for the other. Submitting for both will result in 0 points. Choose wisely.

Should your poison of choice be art, you'll be putting a video game or media scene as a comic page. You can do signature style graphics, traditional art, digital art, whatever it may be. Take what you do best and make the best piece of art you possibly can!

Contest Guidelines
  • Theme: Depict a video game or media scene as a comic page (one page only, no panel limit). Cannot be a replica of an existing comic or manga scene.
  • Dimensions: Must not exceed 1240 x 1080 px if digital or standard 8.5" x 11" paper if traditional. Can be any dimensions within these restrictions.
  • You may include a two-sentence context or link with your submission. This doesn't count for points, but it may help us understand your piece if we don't know the scene.
  • You don't need to have full-body images, BUT if we are indecisive about the quality between the two, the full-body image will win. [Not applicable for GFX]
  • No nudity or excess violence. Keep it PG-13.
  • YOU MAY NOT USE AI TO AID YOU IN THIS EVENT. WE WILL KNOW. YOU WILL GET 0 POINTS.
  • Deadline: Friday at 11:59 PM EDT (the challenge lasts 3 days).

1st place will be awarded 150 points
2nd place will be awarded 100 points
3rd place will be awarded 75 points
4th and 5th place will be awarded 50 points
6th through 10th place will be awarded 20 points

It's time for the aspiring authors among us to put your thinking caps on and write us a short story! We love to read short stories, no matter how good or awful they may be. Use any type of technique to try and make a compelling story of whatever genre you choose, incorporating the items and phrases below. You don't need to include these items prominently in your story, but the more prominent they are while keeping the story interesting and well-written, the more we'll consider you as a winner. Note that Smash Camp fanfics, no matter how well-written, will receive 0 points.

Items you need to include:
  • Fountain
  • Fire
  • Ribbon

Choose at least three of the five dialogue options to include in your story:
  • "And why is that? I thought this was perfectly reasonable."
  • "[Name], they lost _____." (fill in the blank)
  • "Listen, this is all we have to work with right now."
  • "Um, could you please repeat that?"
  • "Come on, we don't have a million years!"

Contest Guidelines
  • Please make sure your word count is between 500 and 1000 words.
  • Keep it PG-13.
  • YOU MAY NOT USE AI TO AID YOU IN THIS EVENT. WE WILL CHECK. WE WILL KNOW. YOU WILL GET 0 POINTS.

Scavenger Hunt (Day 3)

A staple of Smash Camp that we're excited to bring back this year! For this event, we will provide a list of items that each camper will need to find and take a picture of in real life. Find them, take a picture of them (with the required proof - see below), and get some points! You will earn 5 points for each picture submitted, with an extra 5 bonus points available for specific items.

Contest Guidelines

  • You may only take photos of these items in person (in your house, at a store, wherever as long as you're physically with the item). It cannot be a screenshot or an image from the internet.
  • Your photo absolutely must be accompanied by a slip of paper with your username and cabin number on it.
  • In the past we've been lenient with the validity of submissions that were not totally accurate but showed effort and/or creativity. This year, we will only accept submissions that are accurate as to what we're requesting (e.g. if we ask for a lime, we wouldn't accept a lemon that's been painted green).
  • Bonus points will be available for one or more items per day. These points will be awarded at the discretion of camp staff for submissions that meet the bonus requirements.

Today's items are the following:
  • Non-standard dice (not six-sided)
  • Something with a barcode that ends in 0 Bonus if it ends in 2 or more 0's (the ending 0 MUST be inside the right guard of the barcode)
  • A mug with at least 3 full words on it Bonus if the text is not black (must be already on the mug, not handwritten or stuck)

Video Game Geoguessr (Day 3)

We will be providing screenshots from these 3 games: Elden Ring, The Legend Of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, and Genshin Impact. You will try to figure out where the character is standing on the map based off the screenshot. You will submit your answer as a cabin from these map websites we're providing:

SCREENSHOTS!

Elden Ring: Elden Ring Map | Map Genie
Zelda:  https://mapgenie.io/zelda-breath-of-the-wild/maps/hyrule
Genshin Impact: Teyvat Interactive Map - HoYoLAB

Points will be awarded for each location based off closest to farthest. If there is a situation in which there are answers from different cabins that are so close to each other the difference is negligible, it will be a tie and both cabins (or more) will receive the same amount of points

1st - 30 points
2nd - 20 points
3rd - 10 points
4th - 5 points

But that's not all! Along with that, there are also 10 screenshots from different games where you have to guess the video game and what level/location in the game the image is from. Cabins will get 5 points for guessing the correct game and 5 points for guessing the correct level/location.

SCREENSHOTS!

Answers will be submitted in the submissions channel for each cabin.

DO NOT CHEAT BY USING GOOGLE LENS OR AND REVERSE IMAGE SEARCHES! THAT IS LAME!

Tournaments

More matches have been completed, but we still need to progress through the rounds. Keep on battling!

Side Events

Once you finish your daily activities, we strongly encourage you to participate in our side events! Some of these will last all of Smash Camp, and some have deadlines. Make sure to read the rules and enjoy what we think is one of the coolest parts of Smash Camp! Additional details for each of the side events can be found here.

We're rooting for you all! Make your cabins proud!
