The return of the most competitive tournament in Smash Camp, the Pokemon Showdown tournament, is back for the 13th edition, and this will be the most different one yet. For this year's tournament, we are breaking free from the confines of tiers, and entering into the different but similar confines of the free market. The format for this year will be a custom draft format, where you will have a set budget and all Pokemon in the Paldea + DLC Pokedex will be selectable and have a dollar value. In teambuilding, you must decide which Pokemon you can afford, picking strong Pokemon to build your team around and compromising for weaker ones that can complement your better Pokemon elsewhere (Or if this is too complicated for you, you can borrow a team your cabinmate made and run with it). We're hoping that you can get creative with your teams and have some fun in a more different format than in previous years. With these new rules, anybody could win, so you definitely should sign up and be a part of the best tournament we've got.
1 | In this tournament, your team will be comprised of Pokemon you choose within a set budget of $23. 2 | PLEASE double check any team you build with that all Pokemon are within the set budget. You auto forfeit the current game if your team exceeds the budget. I encourage you to check your opponents teams quickly to keep them honest within budget. Nobody should intentionally cheat though, because I will watch every replay myself and make sure teams are legal. 3 | This tournament will be played in the OU (Gen 9) tier on Pokemon Showdown and will use the battle rules and Pokedex of that tier. 4 | You do NOT have to keep the same team within the same set - feel free to swap to a different team mid set, so long as that team is legal. 5 | Pokemon are worth from $7 for the strongest you can buy, $0 for quite difficult Pokemon to use, and anywhere in between. 6 | The values were sorted by me (Nick). I think I did a pretty good job on balancing but I'm not perfect and everyone won't agree with the prices I set. I encourage to find the Pokemon you think I may have undervalued and use that to your advantage - everyone is working with the same tier list! 7 | Single elimination format tournament. All matches Bo3 excepting the Finals and the Third place match, which will be Bo5.
Let it be known since Smash Camp is only a week long, you will have to be fairly active each day to consider signing up for this tourney. We don’t want to have to DQ people because they aren't available or whatever, so we just wanna make it clear ONLY sign up if you're sure you can be around for at least an hour or two throughout the day every day.
1st place will be awarded 200 points 2nd place will be awarded 150 points 3rd place will be awarded 100 points 4th place will be awarded 50 points 5th place will be awarded 25 points
